Van Life, Day 730: Two Years in a Van

Today marks 730 days since I turned in the keys to my back house apartment in Lubbock and moved into a 1995 Dodge Ram B2500 van with my two dogs. I’d planned to write a lengthy essay about the experience and what I’ve learned so far—something from which I could then make a serious short film—but here I sit as evening falls, and I’m tired and just want to go to sleep. Would you believe that “van life” is just “life” for some of us?

That lengthy essay and short film are coming. Tonight, I quietly celebrate two years of living this nontraditional lifestyle and think of meaningful ways to renew my commitment to it and the goals I desire to achieve in the process. I have much to share in due time. Hang with me.

Tomorrow begins Year Three.

Here’s to that!
