The Obedience & Wilderness Training (O.W.T.) program is designed to teach trail etiquette and wilderness skills to people who want to hike and backpack safely with their dogs.
With an emphasis on safety and minimizing our dog-human impact in wild places as much as possible, the curriculum adds trail-specific skills to a solid foundation of basic obedience. This course provides basic skill training in wilderness safety, risk assessment and management, canine first aid (no certificate), Leave No Trace principles, how to translate basic obedience cues to a wilderness environment, how to research trail-specific rules, local laws pertaining to dogs, and more.
The O.W.T. program is rooted in attentiveness and respect and aims to enhance the wilderness experience by strengthening connections with our dogs, with nature, and with others who reside and recreate in the same spaces.
I'm currently offering one-on-one sessions that can be conducted via a combination of e-mail and FaceTime or Zoom.
O.W.T. Online Course
I've been slowly working to develop an asynchronous online version of my Obedience & Wilderness Training course in my limited down time. If you're interested in such a resource, please send me a note of encouragement. :)
